My Letter to the Mayor of Pokhara City Mr. Dhana Raj Acharya. The Mayor of Kathmandu and Dharan has already set the bar higher. We want our beautiful city pokhara more healthier, complete, natural and heavenly. Some of the points I came up with are the major problems that we Pokhrelis are facing daily. Hope you will come in to an action to make it happen. And if you are geared up then we will back you up always sir !
1. Pokhara is known as beautiful, clean and tourism city of Nepal but the entrance of Pokhara (Rangashala, Chinese bridge) gives such a bad vibes to the tourist because of the rotten bad smell of decomposed fishes and vegetables from the market nearby. As they throw all the wastages in the road carelessly.
2. Let’s keep aside the road condition of inner tole and alley for a while. The road condition of main markets are full of cracks and pitholes. While maintaining those broken roads, the authority never put night visible ‘caution’ sign, which creates lots of accidents, serious injuries and even death.
3. Almost every street lights of Pokhara are dim like Nepali citizen’s future. No streets lights are bright enough to ride vehicle safely and confidently during night.
4. The design and rules of almost every round-about (Chowk) are confusing. Traffic police sometime gives signal to circle around the center of chowk but sometimes they just let vehicle without circling the center, which is again causing many severe accidents.
5. There is no bus stand, where public vehicles are supposed to stop for a while to load their passengers and drop them to their destination (i.e. next bus stand) Public buses creates problems, traffic jam and even accident by stopping wherever their passenger waves their hands. Almost every public buses are over packed. Even we, general public are too lazy to walk up to the bus stand and wait for the bus.
6. I would like to request the mayor of Pokhara personally to open playground or public health and fitness center in every tole of Pokhara, which will eventually engaged youth towards sports and fitness that will enhance restless and energetic youth to channelize their energy and this small initiatives can give birth to future sports champions. And most importantly, it will eradicate drugs problem, gang violence among the youth in society.
7. Pokhara has been giving significant contribution and examples in the field of Nepali Art, music and entertainment by many pokhreli legendary artist, who were never acknowledged from our government sector. Small support from the side of provincial government towards art, music and entertainment by opening one auditorium or concert hall can make huge difference. We, as an artist are paying taxes to the government but government in return never gave damn about royalties, copy right, and many other issues.
8. Our provincial government should put attention towards the creativity done by youth. For an example, Past 3-4 years ago, somewhere in Pokhara, a group of youth collected a waste plastic materials. After melting those waste plastic, adding pebbles and other needed materials; they pitched inner road like 100m long just for the demonstration. Surprisingly, that road come out to be perfect for use. Expert said that road made up of waste plastic in the inner alley is perfect and durable. This is completely win-win situation.
9. Cliffy, Long and hectic sky bridge road in Pokhara is only used for making selfie videos, dating and other unwanted thing. Psychologically, people never wanted to take a step in a cliffy and hectic sky bridge. I believe underground tube channel would be more cost effective and usable. Since, the first process to go through underground tube will be downwards and easy.
10. Nepal have many gems, stars and legends in the field of music, acting, dancing, politics, social work etc. who are dead and alive. There is always big controversy and debate about making statues to give tribute to their loved one. The footpath area of Lake side and walking trail by the side of lake can be used just like Hollywood’s “Walk of Fame” streets in the USA, where we can craft the name of artist in every marble on the floor to give them a tribute.
11. The surprise checking of Nepal Police in the street should be done properly; equipped with safety and lights. Most of the times, the checking is held in a dark corner which might cause accident. Therefore, proper signal of police checking should be placed atleast 50 meter away to avoid sudden crashes.
P.S. These are some major problems in Pokhara that we have been facing. If you guys have any additional complains and ideas that need to be mentioned then kindly comment below.
Thank You & Good Morning ☀️
